Triple Crown or Double Crown

Saturday was the day of the third leg of the triple crown races (those are horse races). It was held at the Belmont Park Race Track.

There was a horse by the name of California Chrome that won the two previous races and naturally he was the favorite. The hype surrounding this race was unbelievable. There were about a 100,000 people at the racetrack and that meant that every road leading there were totally filled with cars.

Unfortunately, I had to go in the same general direction and I had to take detours and side roads to avoid the mob and that way my trip took longer.

But back to the hype.

There was nothing else in the media but this horse. How he was going to make history, how rich he will make his owners, how he was the favorite. It was a good thing that the horse couldn't read because all this would have made him very nervous.

American media does this all the time. At the Olympic Games they start on somebody who is supposed to be the favorite and at the end when that person does not win he/she is forgotten. Yesterday's news.

I am sure with humans this kind of publicity really makes the person nervous and the anticipation of winning plays into losing. With non-humans let's say horses the publicity will affect the jockeys, the trainers and the owners. But fortunately not the horses.

Regardless, this star horse that was a shoo-in yesterday came in fourth. Not even third but fourth. that means he was not even in the money.

I guess all the publicity really go to him.

My advice to everybody is do not eat any frankfurters for a while because we really don't know where this horse will end up.
