Thursday's Thoughts

Hungarians are great people. They invented (I hope) the goulash, ballpoint pen, and the chardash among other things. They also wholeheartedly adopted antisemitism and a few other good traits. They are really a very rare people. They do things no other civilized country is able to do.

For instance they bankrupted their own national airline that used to be called Malev. To me that is almost as stupid as cutting the tree branch from under one's self.

I can not understand ho can a country and its government can bankrupt its own airline. It is different here in the US where airlines are privately own but that was owned by their own government.

In March of 2012 this airline suddenly stopped operating, left people in the lurch and disappeared from the horizon.

Why am writing about this now?

Because ever since that time it became very difficult to travel to Budapest. Malev along with at least one American carrier provided non-stop flights between New York and Budapest. When Malev went belly up, American Airlines and Delta scrapped their plans for the non-stop service. Now the traveler has to find connecting flights which adds time to the already long flight.

Today a very good and close friend from Budapest informed me that she would come to New York in September but since the Hungarian airline disappeared it will be more complicated to get here.

I do know people who gave up going because of their physical condition transferring is more complicating than the whole thing is worth.

It also made me think because I am planning to go to Budapest next Spring with my lifelong buddy and we have to find a financially and physically acceptable route.

But then I still have year to worry about this. Who knows how life will turn out in that time.
